Hayfever Survival Guide

Hayfever Survival Guide
Keeping hayfever at bay at the first sign of spring for some can be a daily struggle. Simply stepping out the front door or opening a window can be enough to spark the unending sneezing, runny nose and watery eyes. It’s an awful feeling and commonly once it starts is hard to stop.

Quite simply, hayfever is an allergic reaction that occurs when the immune system becomes hypersensitive to a certain substance. In spring, this occurs with pollens, grasses and some flowers. As part of the allergic reaction, immune cells quickly release a chemical called histamine.

While you may feel like there’s not a lot you can do to help it, it is possible to lower this histamine reaction through herbs and diet.

Eat foods low in histamine

While a low histamine diet may not be the answer to all your hayfever problems, it can certainly help. Low histamine foods include most fresh fruits and vegetables, as well as gluten free grains.

Eat foods high in quercetin

Quercetin is a plant flavonoid with natural antihistamine activity and can be found in foods like grapefruit, onions, apples, black tea, leafy green vegetables and beans.

Consider vitamin C

Most people aren’t aware that vitamin C is nature’s own antihistamine. While we instantly think of an orange, some of the best dietary sources of vitamin C are guava’s, kiwi fruit and red capsicum.

Herbs of Gold Hayfever & Sinus Ease

Herbs of Gold Hayfever & Sinus Ease is an antioxidant formula containing Eyebright, traditionally used in Western herbal medicine to relieve the symptoms of hayfever, as well as Horseradish and Garlic, traditionally used in Western herbal medicine to clear respiratory tract mucous, this complex formula also contains vitamin C for that extra immune support.

Always read the label. Follow the directions for use. If symptoms persist, talk to your health professional. Vitamin supplements should not replace a balanced diet.
